Hornby Class N15 Sir Lamiel R2638N15.JPG (10384 bytes)

The sole surviving member of the King Arthur Class is '777 Sir Lamiel' which was chosen for preservation as part of the National Collection. It was built by the North British Locomotive Company and entered traffic in June in 1925. As such it is referred to as a 'Scottish Arthur'. Smoke deflectors were fitted in December 1927. From birth it carried the number 'E777' but the 'E' was dropped in June 1932. The locomotive received Bulleid black livery in July 1944 and did not receive Malachite green livery until January 1947. It was therefore in Malachite when BR took it over in 1948 and in May that year it was renumbered '30777'. Brunswick green livery was applied in December 1951 and the revised BR insignia in January 1960. Following its decommissioning in October 1961 it lay in storage for several years. Restoration of the locomotive was finally carried out at Hull Dairycotes Depot in June 1978 by the Humberside Locomotive Group and it returned to steam in February 1982. Its most recent restoration was carried out by the 5305 Locomotive Association at the Great Central Railway where it is currently kept.

The exquisite quality of this series of Class N15 models has already been described in earlier reviews and won't be repeated here. 'Sir Lamiel' is Hornby's National Railway Museum Collection model for 2007.
