There were only 13 members of the Princess Royal Class, all named after female members of the Royal Family alive at the time. Rovex produced their model of 'Princess Elizabeth' in 1950 and the last versions of this were made by Hornby in 1974. A new scale model arrived in 1984 and the current one is the third completely retooled model. It dates from 2001 and already 11 versions of it have been released.
'Queen Maud' is the only member of the class to be named after a queen. The rest were princesses except for 'Duchess of Kent'. The model is in BR Brunswick green and carries early BR insignia on the tender. It is, of course, 'DCC ready'. The model comes with a bag of detail for fitting, including brake rods but none of these have been fitted to the model in the photograph.
