No.400 was a 10 ton wagon built in May 1910 by the Birmingham Carriage & Wagon Co. and registered by the GWR. Unlike the model it had both side and end doors. It also had brakes on one side only but, like the model, it was a 6-plank wagon. Charles and Giles Ayres had founded their company in 1829 and, amongst other things, were suppliers of coal to industry and particularly gas coal to gas works.
