Hammond Publishing was formed in November 1997, by father and son team, Pat and Tim Hammond, primarily to edit Model Railway Enthusiast magazine on behalf of Garnett Dickinson Publishing, with effect from the February 1998 issue. This arrangement concluded shortly after the June 1999 transfer of the magazine to Kelsey Publishing. With effect from the November 1999 issue of MRE, the magazine (now renamed Model Railway Collector) was edited by Peter Simpson. Pat and Tim continued to be associated with the magazine as consultant editors and contributors until its demise in July 2000. This Model Railway Express MAG website was a totally seperate venture to Model Railway Enthusiast and continues to be solely operated by Hammond Publishing to provide a daily update of news from the model railway industry, with a particular bias towards collecting. The site features News, New Releases, Book Reviews, Classified Ads, Articles and Links. After 30 years as an executive in the leisure industry, Pat Hammond took early retirement in 1997 to develop his writing career. He is well known in model railway circles as the author of The Rovex Story - Vol. 1 - 'Tri-ang Railways', Vol. 2 - 'Tri-ang Hornby', Vol.3 - 'Hornby Railways' and Ramsay's British Model Trains Catalogue (now in its 4th Edition). He is working on Vol. 4 'Hornby' as well as a general history of model railway manufacturing over the last 100 years and a history of Airfix and Mainline Railways. As compiler of Ramsay's British Model Trains Catalogue he is currently finishing the 5th Edition due out in the autumn of 2006. He writes the 'Hot Off the Tracks' pages in Collectors Gazette and provides occasional articles for British Railway Modelling and Tri-ang Telegraph. He also writes regular articles for The Hornby Collector and Model Rail. From the December 2006 issue, he takes over the editorship of Train Collectors Society's magazine TCS News which is to be renamed Train Collector and be enlarged to cover a wider range of model railway and toy train collecting. Tim Hammond, is an experienced modeller, having built two exhibition layouts and assisted in the construction of many others at his local model railway club.
